In polar inertia, sound-barrier-breaking speed telescopes into debilitating immobility (Virilio). In liberal totalitarianism, freedom telescopes into unwitting obedience and the paralysis of choice (Žižek). Approaching performance (as social behaviour) and performativity (as inter-personal and contextual co-constitutivity) from the perspectives of value and habit, this chater situates the discussion of liberal totalitarianism within digital interaction, the internalised repetition of stylised hegemonic acts, and ‘organised’ contingency.
